The Beginning of Temagami Marine

Temagami Marine has been part of the Lake Temagami community since 1958. What began as a small marina created to serve island residents has grown into a trusted dealership for new and used boats in Temagami, Ontario. Today, Temagami Marine is proud to represent respected brands like Yamaha, Mercury, and G3 Boats, while continuing the family values that shaped its story from the start.

A Marina Built for Lake Temagami

In the early 1900s, more people began visiting the Temagami region for recreation, drawn by its clear waters, natural beauty, and peaceful surroundings. Bob and Betty Louks saw the growing need for dependable marine service for cottage owners on Lake Temagami’s many islands. They made Temagami their home and founded Temagami Marine with a commitment to helping boaters enjoy the region safely and confidently.

Growing with the Community

From its original location on the northeast arm of the lake, the dealership steadily expanded to meet demand. In 1970, the business moved to its current site on the south side of Inlet Bay. Over the years, Temagami Marine added storage buildings, slips, service facilities, and expanded showroom space, becoming a leader in boat storage and marine support in Northern Ontario.

A Family Tradition of Service

The dealership’s history is also a story of family and continuity. Ownership passed from Bob and Betty to Bill and Billie Kitts, then later to the Lamothe family, and eventually back to Kim Kitts and Jim Krech. Through every chapter, the focus remained the same: outstanding customer service, a welcoming atmosphere, and lasting relationships with local families and seasonal visitors alike.

Temagami Marine Today

More than six decades later, Temagami Marine continues to honour that tradition. Our history is rooted in loyalty, hard work, and a genuine love for boating in Temagami.
